Fanart of one of my all time favorite films: Spirited Away.
It's also a small tribute to Japan. It's not a 'PRAY FOR JAPAN' piece, but it's a little tribute to what this country has given the world. I just wanted to show that I appreciate such beautiful work.
This is... a very complicated scene. That's for sure. I've always wondered if Haku and Chihiro saw each other again. The whole thing reminded me of Wizard of Oz in a way. All of these people she met were there in real life, but she was just passing them by...
So this would be a few year later as she's walking down a market street, yet something catches her attention.
I tried to fit as many characters into this as possible. D: I think I spent at least 12+ hours just sketching and working in characters and ideas. I think I went through at least 5 or so sketched until I settled on this. I used lineart (gasp) and I tried super hard to mesh the styles of Miyazaki and my own. Very difficult task...
I was petrified to do Baby. And yes, I gave him a diaper. I didn't want to draw any little baby junk. Other than that, I tried to keep somewhat close to the original characters' outfits, with a few updates. Haku I made a few years older, Kamajii only has two arms, Yubaba/Zeniiba's head is much smaller.
Chihiro I updated a lot. She's older, so she doesn't own the exact same outfit anymore, but for some reason she's still drawn to the same colors/styles/patterns. Anyway, time for the scavenger hunt. Can you find these items:
The Bath Frog
Green Head Guys
Baby as a Hamster
Radish Spirit (My favorite part!)
Hydrangeas from this scene: [link]
Yubaba's Bird as a little Fly thing
The house/island scene when Chihiro is on the train
Hope you guys enjoy this piece as much as I did!
Spirited Away (c) Miyazaki
Art (c) Sirquo (Me)
Photoshop CS4, Wacom Tablet
Things I already know are wrong and you DO NOT
need to mention them to me anymore:
Haku is 'feminine'
Hands look weird
Baby is anatomically incorrect
Yubaba is disproportionate
Honestly, I know it's not perfect. This was a personal piece. I don't need more critiques. Thanks
