PSP Tutorial -- Lineart by Sirquo PSP Tutorial -- Lineart by Sirquo
EDIT: I made this tutorial a LONG time ago and since then my computer has crashed and I lost my PSP program, and, as I gave my disc for it to a friend and they never returned it, I cannot download it again. I cannot answer your questions and I greatly apologize for this inconvenience!!

Color/Shading Tutorial: [link]

Eye Tutorial: [link]

Final Product: [link]

First of many tutorials. I've had a few people nagging me to do a tutorial for Paint Shop Pro. So, I did. This is the first of a few, as I've said.

This one is for LINEART.

This is one way to do it, not necessarily the only way. Just the way I do it.

Favs and comments are MUCH appreciated!

its really good, but when i try this i can never get the curve i want coz i have to move the lines in so much to have a smaller fill area. if that makes sense >.<

That's the problem with Paint Shop Pro. In order to get weighted lines, which this tutorial shows, you have to follow this kind of way and it's terribly tedious and difficult. If you're really having difficulty with it, I may suggest upgrading to Photoshop 7, or downloading SAI as alternate digital art programs.

Thank for letting me know, but there's no way I can change it now. I haven't made a tutorial since this one, nor do I plan on making another.

Hello! Your lineart tutorial was very interesting and helpful, but I'd like to ask few more things! I made an example pictures: [link] and [link] (on photobucket) and I've been trying to figure out if its possible to get those "squares" on the inner side of the vector thing, because in higher resolution I can't make curves well. The first pic is to show what happens if i just draw it there and the second one how I do it in my way which doesnt work.

I'd appreciate help very much!

The trick is to make your 'line' into a 'shape'. Like, when you want to make a square, you draw a square. In this case, we're drawing /around/ the line to give it the depth we want. I'd love to show you how to do this on Paint Shop Pro, but I no longer have it on this computer (I use photoshop) so I tried to give the best example I could on Photshop. [link]

You go up along the other side of the line. So first you draw the right side of the line, then you go up along the left side of the line. It's kind of like you're making a long a skinny 'shape'. Like if you cut a curve out of a piece of paper you go along one side, but that doesn't give you a curved line, does it? So cut along the other side so you can get that nice 'line'. Make sense XD?

Just change the canvas size to 50x50 pixels. Or, when you crop, set the size to 50x50. OR create a new image, blank, print screen the image you'd like, or copy all the layers, then paste them on your new avatar image.

Leetle question for ya. I'm using your tutorial as I type this, but I noticed that if I make a line too curvy, it fills in. Like, if I make a semi-circle line, it will fill into an actual semicircle. It's making some of my lines far too thick. Is it just my version, or am I royally fucking something up?

Haha, nope, once you make a really big curve, like an arc, go back along the inside of it before accepting it as a line. This will also happen if you have a curve along the lines of an "S" shape. So, you draw your first shape, in your case an arc, don't click accept, then draw through the colored part from your last point. This will force the color to stay in that new line you just made. You're basically making an outline of the thick or thin line. Make sense?

I like how you are using the pen tool for line art so I tried it....maybe I'm just not seeing it but i had to ask anyway cuz i want to get this right...After i draw my line i click edit mode to get all the anchors and squares, i play around there then its the 'draw up along the inside of your first line' part that i don't get...do I draw up from the square that says end?
Reply
:iconsirquo:
Sirquo Featured By Owner Oct 6, 2007  Hobbyist Digital Artist
Yes, you have to click on either START or END before you can continue with your line, otherwise it creates a new line and doesn't work the way you want. Sorry if that was confusing!! I'll have to edit this tutorial =/
